When I was first learning how to create websites, I asked myself if I could ever conquer the whole world if I become good enough with hacking around web technologies. That gave me enough reason to learn more. I wanted to be a hero.
That was until I realised that I didn’t want to conquer the world after all. It would have been a heavy burden trying to own the world. I was just simply trying to find reasons to push forward the supposedly limits of oneself. I was stumbling around life, just like everyone else.
I’ve made a lot of friends since then and I’ve had a lot of dealings with people from various walks of life and although not all of those experiences inspire hope in humanity, I was still inspired anyway.
If there’s one thing I learned so far in my life is that every people, no matter what their status in life is, has the potential to do something unexpectedly brilliant.
I’ve met a boy who sold books to study law, young men and women who have created their startups at a very young age, students who study robotics, visionaries that aim to change a whole city into a modern utopia.
All of these happening in the background of political turmoil, terrorism and worst of all apathy. The bad news always seem to find it’s way to the headlines while the positive news seem to always get bypassed.
It’s been only a few years since I’ve dreamt of conquering the world for myself. A lot has changed since then. I don’t want to conquer the world anymore, I realized there are more important things worth living for. In what I have seen so far, there are a lot of problems but the solutions to them are more than enough if we are willing to hear each other out. I was won by peace and love and now I want to win people over with the same things.
Since I’ve decided to write about things that can inspire people to move for the good, I built a site before that aimed to share hope to the world. It lasted for a bit until I was no longer able to keep it afloat by myself. When I met the founders of OffCrowd, the people calling themselves “the crowd” I saw in them a team that I can work with in establishing a platform that can share stories of hope and solutions with the world. These are people who truly believe in the power of sharing positive and real stories of people.
They say a journey of a thousand miles start with a single step, being part of the team is the start of a journey, one single step, but it felt like a thousand miles already. Being with people who actually believe what you’re doing can make you feel like nothing is impossible. There will be challenges for us, but our shared dreams are here in this and where we’re going from here we can decide together.
