Manila, Philippines – Developh kicked off Collab Pitch Day last August 24, Saturday at the Amazon Philippines Office in Taguig City. At the intersection of technology & design, entrepreneurship, activism, and creation for impact – they gathered over 80 diverse participants to explore what it means to tangibly build initiatives for social good powered by technology; and listen to this generation of people making change who need help.

All the organizations had five to seven minutes to pitch their ideas. There were three awards presented during Pitch Day: the Best Pitch Award, the Inclusivity Award, and the Innovation Award.
An organization founded and led by University of Santo Tomas nursing student Qjiel Marianoand and teammate, Bram Gonzales, a 12th Grade ABM student at Centro Escolar University Makati, called Streets to Schools, wins the Innovation Award for their game and rewards App idea called Alitaptap.
Alitaptap is an app that aims to advocate the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
The game begins with the Alitaptap story. A bug who has no purpose in life wishes upon a shooting star. The bug suddenly absorbs all the light from the star. By playing the game, you will be collecting points.
After that, you can exchange your points for rewards through their partnered corporations, and help the children in youth benefit from these rewards. Just like a buy-one-take-one promo, the player has the option to donate the take-one to a street child by tapping the donate option on the screen. Once the user understands the advocacy of the game, he could tap on the volunteer features of the App and could attend sessions with Streets to Schools.
Streets to Schools is a youth-led initiative that aims to bring street children back to school. The goal of this organization is to advocate children’s rights to everyone who owns a smartphone through the game they have developed. To put people in other people’s shoes – to be able to understand how street children live day to day without any access to their basic rights.
Partnered with them in promoting this cause is content marketing and events management company, Ambidextr.
“Street children are too often overlooked as a demographic group in the Philippines. Streets to Schools gives them a chance to get back to schools where they belong. In this sense, the app is a shining example of democratic innovation: It provides help to the people who need it the most,” said Kyle Nate, head of partnerships at Ambidextr.
The other winners were Trinitech Alliance and Streets to Schools, who won the Pitch Award and the Innovation Award, respectively.
After Pitch Day, online applications will be released to join these partner organization’s projects before they embark on the 2-month virtual incubator. After prototyping, building, and testing, these groups and more will return for a Demo Day focused on industry leaders by the end of 2019. Learn more at https://developh.org/collab

Developh is an international nonprofit investing in youth-led innovation for social good across the developing world. We run education and accelerator programs to build the student founder community, making technology more equitable. By uplifting and upskilling students to access technology to build meaningful things today, we can shift the technology pipeline to work for all.
Since its founding in 2016, Developh has been recognized by AnitaB.org (the largest women in tech conference in the world), We Are Family Foundation, and more.
Collab is a by-students, for-students accelerator that works on impactful collaborations with mission-based organizations, working to scale their impact with technology; focusing on working with underrepresented Filipinos to build for good and upskill with technology. After Pitch Day, Developh is hosting a virtual incubator to directly build on the pitched projects with the organization providing capital, mentorship, technical guidance, and more.
The first youth-driven event of its kind in the Philippines, Collab aims to use technology as a bridge to solving problems. Developh recognizes that technology has given us the potential to change the world from our bedrooms; we believe that capacity can make a difference in the Philippines. We’re not just conceptualizing or talking: we’re here to build directly with technology and change the world.
